ChangeMakers is interested in the concept of being a rights-based organisation and what it means in practice. We wrote a 'think piece' to help us explore this topic.
This discussion came about because we believe that former refugees have both rights and responsibilities. Refugee-background communities in the Wellington region have expressed their concerns that their rights are often compromised. This is not only because services are inaccessible, but they have reported that their rights are disrespected.
This think piece, A Human Rights-Based Approach to Refugee Resettlement (pdf, 118 kb), considers what a human rights-based approach to resettlement might look like in key areas. We want to talk to communities and organisations interested in exploring these ideas further.
Please contact us if you'd like to have a conversation about this.
