What we do

ChangeMakers Refugee Forum makes a positive contribution to resettlement and helps to build sustainable refugee-background communities in the Wellington region by:

  • listening and responding to issues identified by refugee-background communities 

  • supporting the interconnectivity of refugee communities

  • ulitising the knowledge and experiences of refugee-background communities and those who work with them, to provide informed and effective research and advocacy 

  • facilitating training, mentoring, and leadership development

  • building connections between refugee-background communities and service providers signed up to the Wellington Regional Action Plan For Refugee Health and Wellbeing

 

Key outcomes for 2011-12

  1. Communities have increased awareness and understanding of their rights.

  2. Government and non-government organisations have increased understanding of a rights based approach.
     
  3. Communities are supported to participate more fully in New Zealand life.
     
  4. The contribution of people from refugee backgrounds to New Zealand is documented and promoted.
     
  5. Board and staff are supported to increase the effectiveness and  transparency of our work.

  6. ChangeMakers’ relationship with its communities is underpinned by a rights based approach .
