Community Development

We build the capacity of refugee communities by providing ongoing training and support to communities and their leaders. Communities let us know what courses they want and we do our best to meet that need. We have organised courses on parenting in New Zealand, governance and fund raising, writing CVs and finding work, as well as holiday programmes for school age children.

Our community development work includes supporting communities to set up committees and run events throughout the year that build them as a community. Much of our work is focussed on youth and women.

Our youth projects aim to build the skills and confidence of refugee-background youth (13 to 29). We also advocate for refugee youth issues, as well as support them to participate fully in Wellington life.

In our work with women, we try to build the skills, confidence and participation of women in their own communities and in the wider community. Our new Women's Network is planning an event for October.
